PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely set transfer conditions depending on the type of a recording medium. SOLUTION: This intermediate transfer type thermal transfer printer 1 retransfers an image on a film F onto a surface of a card S by pressurizing and carrying the card S and the film F in a superposition through a cooperation between a heat roller 23 and a pressure roller 24, while heating the film F, subjected to the transfer of the image, by the heat roller 23. The thermal transfer printer 1 is equipped with a heater part 25 for heating the heat roller 23, a motor part M for driving the pressure roller 24, an identification code 27 corresponding to the type of the card S, an optical sensor 28 for reading information on the identification code 27, and a control means which controls the temperature of the heater part 25 and controls the speed of the revolution of the motor part M in accordance with the information on the identification code 27 read by the optical sensor 28.
