<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for modifying the surface of a polymer such as thermoplastic resin, using supercritical fluid, especially carbon dioxide in a supercritical state as a solvent and for making the polymer surface highly functional in a short time. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for modifying the surface of a polymer, a dissolved substance is made to permeate into the surface of the swollen polymer by previously applying the dissolved substance to the polymer surface, when the supercritical fluid comes into contact with the polymer.
