<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for generating a three-dimensional image by which more realistic performance is possible since various images according to a shielding degree are generated and displayed. <P>SOLUTION: A video game device 12 includes a CPU 36 and the CPU 36 generates and displays a game image in cooperation with a GPU 42. Specifically, an object is arranged in a virtual three-dimensional space. The virtual three-dimensional space is transformed into a viewpoint coordinate system and projection transformation is further performed. After the projection transformation, a decision point is set correspondingly to a specific object and the shielding degree of the specific object is calculated on the basis of the Z value of the specific object and the Z value of the decision point.
