PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which makes high contrast and a high aperture ratio compatible with each other in relation to the liquid crystal display device to be utilized for compact projection use. SOLUTION: A TFT using a polysilicon formed by enhancing its crystal growth is used for an active layer. In this way, a frame inversion drive is carried out with 140 HZ, double speed of a usual frame frequency with 70 Hz, in a high-precision display of XGA or exceeding it. Furthermore, pixel electrodes 51, 52, neighboring in the extension direction of a source bus line 59, are aligned with a prescribed interval d, corresponding to 15% or less of a length of the pixel electrode 51. Thereby, when a pixel pitch is set to be 18μm×18μm, contiguous pixel interelectrode capacitance CPP(Y) of about 1 fF can be obtained, and a voltage which is equal to 5 V maximum peak to minimum peak voltage of a display data with nearly 250 mV voltage added thereto can be applied to the pixel electrode 51. Consequently, the high contrast is obtained in a normally white mode display by applying a sufficient driving voltage to the liquid crystal without sacrificing the aperture ratio of each pixel.
