<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a beam shaping element easy to be manufactured while maitaining its high performance and capable of obtaining a high shaping rate. <P>SOLUTION: The beam shaping element BC converts the elliptical beam outputted from the semiconductor laser light source into a circular beam. The element has a curvature only in the minor axial direction of the elliptical cross-section both for the 1st surface S1 and the 2nd surface S2, and makes its one surface a circular arc cylindrical surface and the other a non-circular arc cylindrical surface. Further, it satisfies the conditional expression: 1.2 ≤T1/T0≤10 (T1: the core thickness of the beam shaping element BC, T0: optical length along the axis between the semiconductor laser light source and the beam shaping element BC). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
