PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid image pickup device which can significantly enhance a frame reading speed. SOLUTION: A CMOS color image sensor 10 which is a solid image pickup device is provided with an image array 14 composed by arranging a plurality of pixels 12 converting incoming rays into electric signals in a matrix form having a plurality of rows and columns row selection lines HL0-HL5, and column reading lines VL0 and VL1. Two column reading lines are provided to each column of the pixel arrays 14, pixels of even rows in each column are connected to one column reading line VL0, and the pixels of odd rows are connected to the other column reading line VL1.
