PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a defective pixel correction method for preventing a defective pixel from becoming a chromatic color when color around the defective pixel is light and an achromatic subject is imaged. SOLUTION: A defective pixel correction circuit determines whether an incoming image signal is from the output of the defective pixel or that of a normal pixel (S101). When the determined result is a normal pixel, the incoming image signal is output as an output image signal as it is (S102). When the determined result is a defective pixel, it is determined that the portion near the defective pixel is the chromatic color or an achromatic color (S103). When the portion near the defective pixel is determined to be the chromatic color, the output image signal of the defective pixel is generated by pre-interpolation (S104). In the case of the achromatic color, the output image signal of the defective pixel is generated so that an image at a defective pixel position becomes the achromatic color by using the image signal of other color components (S105). As a result, the correction method can be provided, thus preventing the defective pixel portion from becoming the chromatic color when the color around the defective pixel is light or is the achromatic color.
