PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer-containing composition having excellent gas-barrier properties after being treated with hot water or steam, and capable of constituting a gas-barrier material hardly causing discoloration and having excellent appearance; to provide a method for producing the composition; and to provide the gas-barrier material using the composition. SOLUTION: The polymer-containing composition comprises a hydrolytic condensation product of a compound (A) containing a metal atom (M) having at least one selected from a halogen atom and an alkoxy group bonded thereto, a vinyl alcohol-based polymer (B) and a polycarboxylic acid (C). The molecular weight of the polycarboxylic acid (C) is <1,000, and the weight ratio of the vinyl alcoholic polymer (B)/the polycarboxylic acid (C) is (99/1)-(70/30). COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
