<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the configuration of a developing unit capable of being downsized and extending the service life of a developer, to obtain a uniform solid image stably without causing nonuniform screw pitch in a solid part even in the use of magnetic carrier with low magnetization, and to completely prevent nonuniform density to contribute to a speed increase and high image quality. <P>SOLUTION: The developing device 1 is designed such that when an electrostatic latent image is a solid image, held on the surface of an upstream developer carrier 8 is a developer layer having recesses at predetermined intervals in its axial direction. In the developing device, when the electrostatic latent image is a solid image, recesses that occur in a developer image developed on an image carrier 10 by the upstream developer carrier 8 do not overlap, on the image carrier 10, recesses that occur in a developer layer conveyed while held from the upstream developer carrier 8 to a developer carrier 11 disposed downstream of the the developer carrier 8 in the direction of the movement of the surface of the image carrier. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
