PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly and efficiently treat a large number of timbers in a method for treating a timber with high-temperature, high-pressure steam in a steam kettle. SOLUTION: Spacers and timbers are heaped alternately in the steam kettle, and the timber is treated with the high-temperature, high-pressure steam. Metal bars 18 are placed between inside and outside heat transfer metal boards 16 and 17 and arranged in parallel with clearances 19 formed between the bars to form the spacers 15.
