<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve work efficiency while suppressing damage to a coated optical fiber in the coating removal operation of an optical fiber cable. <P>SOLUTION: The coating removal apparatus 1 is equipped with a covered wire inserting member 3 formed with an insertion hole 2 and a blade 6 arranged so as to be projected in the radial direction from the inner wall face 5 of the insertion hole 2 and to incline its own longitudinal direction relative to the longitudinal direction of an optical fiber unit 16 to be inserted into the insertion hole 2. Accordingly, by rotating the covered wire inserting member 3 with the optical fiber unit 16 inserted in the insertion hole 2, the coating 24 can be spirally cut. Consequently, the coating 24 can be removed while the radial transfer of the optical fiber unit 16 is restrained by the inclined blade 6; therefore, the cutting quantity, for example, of the blade 6 into the coating 24 is stabilized, suppressing damage to the single cored coated optical fiber 23 in the coating removal operation, and enabling the operation to be carried out efficiently. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
