PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diaphragm mechanism for lessening thickness size by eliminating the intermittent movement of a diaphragm blade, and to provide a camera which uses it. SOLUTION: The diaphragm mechanism 13 comprises a turnable drive ring 15, and the diaphragm blade 14 for adjusting (diaphragming) an amount of light passing an opening 12a of a prescribed bore, formed on a base member 12 by the turning of the drive ring 15. The drive ring 15 comprises fixing a circular arc-like drive magnet 17, in which different magnetic poles are magnetized alternately on the peripheral part in the circumferential direction, with at least two drive coils 18, having a prescribed gap in the outside facing the drive magnet 17 arranged, turning the drive ring 15 by allowing a magnetic flux generated by being energized to at least the two drive coils 18 to act on a magnetic flux of the drive magnet 17, and turning the diaphragm blade 14 in a direction of the opening and closing the opening 12a.
