The device has two sliding parts (40, 42) that are moved relative to each another in an adjusting direction, and two toothed ratchets. One toothed ratchet is simultaneously unlocked in each of the two adjusting directions by activation of an adjusting knob to prevent mutual adjustment of both sliding parts in the adjusting directions and the other toothed ratchet is not unlocked.
