Separator assembly for granular food ingredients has titanium nitride mantle hardened by plasma nitride process

A food processing assembly separates granular components with different flow characteristics. The assembly is a rotating hollow perforated drum with a TiN mantle (21). The TiN mantle is applied to the drum by physical vapour deposition and surface hardened by a plasma nitride process. The drum substrate material is e.g. hardened CrNi steel and of different colour to the mantle. Further claimed is a food separator assembly incorporating a drum with a TiN mantle.
