The application discloses a method of diagnosing a disease in a patient having an elevated level of the free light chain of immunoglobulin in a bodily fluid, comprising determining in a sample of said fluid the presence of a complex of F991 or a functional derivative thereof and the free light chain of immunoglobulin. The application further discloses a method as described above further comprising contacting a foreign antigen specific for a disease with said complex and measuring binding of said foreign antigen to said complex. The application also discloses a method of diagnosing a disease in a patient, wherein a sample of bodily fluid of said patient is contacted with a foreign antigen specific for the disease and subsequently the binding is determined of a complex comprising the free light chain of immunoglobulin and said antigen with F991 or a functional derivative thereof. A diagnostic test kit is also disclosed in the application.
