<p>The present invention relates to a method and an arrangement for automatically determining the mass content of a timber log, wherein the moisture content in the wood material is determined by means of electrodes (5) which are pressed in into the timber log. The timber log is conveyed through a measuring light-wall (3) to a measuring bridge (4) where electrodes (5, 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d) are pressed in pairs in from essentially opposite directions. An electrical current running through opposite electrodes (5a;5b, 5c;5d) is registered after which an indication of the relative moisture content of the timber log is calculated on the basis of registered electrical properties. The moisture indications obtained are combined with cross sectional information which is obtained by means of the light-wall, after which the mass content of the timber log is calculated on the basis of the timber log's total relative moisture content which is calculated as a function of the moisture content indication and the cross section information. The arrangement includes means (3) for determining the respective log cross sections, a measuring bridge (4) having opposite electrodes (5a, 5b) which are pressed in into the timber log, as well as processor means for calculating an estimate for the timber log's average relative moisture content.</p> |
