The system has a set of volatile memory modules (MEM1) and a nonvolatile memory module (MEM2). The nonvolatile memory module stores information that includes identifiers, which indicate the assignment of volatile memory modules` characteristics in the former set (MEM1). The information is transferred to and stored in the former set when an operating voltage is applied to the system. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a storage system including a set of volatile memory modules and a nonvolatile memory module.
