The chain saw has a housing with a motor-driven drive sprocket (2), a blade (4) and a saw chain (5). The spacing between the blade and the drive sprocket is adjustable by a device including a power diversion component (15) which is able to rotate round an axis (16) on the saw housing. A driving lever (17) and a driven lever (18) engage with this component. The drive lever is actuated by an operating element (12).
