The device has an anilox roller (2), transferring a medium to an article, including an elastically radial outer surface (3) and a cavity (4). The roller (2) is designed as a self-supporting rubber roller. The cavity (4) is attached to the surface and cooperates with the surface. The cavity is limited by an outer surface of a base body and an inner surface of a cladding, where the surfaces are arranged opposite to one another. An independent claim is also included for a method of applying medium e.g. liquid, on a profiled surface of an article e.g. endless profile.
