The tire inflation compressor has a pressure generating device for inflating the tire of a vehicle, and a safety mechanism (12) for the limiting to a safety parameter and especially pressure. The safety mechanism may be constructed as an overpressure relief valve, or may be a temperature sensor. The safety mechanism can be integrated into another functional unit such as a pressure measuring element (16). The compressor has at least one identification element (18) to indicate the material characteristics of at least one component (38). Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a housing for a tire inflation compressor; and (B) a driving gearwheel for a tire inflation compressor.
