THINLY LAMINATED CATHODE FOIL

The invention pertains to the field of electric capacitors, more specifically to cathodes of electric capacitors and to a method of manufacture thereof. The invention discloses a capacitor cathode comprising a substrate coated, on at least one side, with a porous chromium coating having a thickness of at least 0.1 micron. In a preferred embodiment the substrate is a valve metal foil, preferably aluminum foil, and the chromium coating is applied by vacuum deposition or sputtering. In a further embodiment said chromium coating is overcoated with an integral valve metal oxide layer having a thickness less than 10 microns.
