A method for detecting the cessation of propagation of a fluid-filled crack in a medium comprises registering oscillations of the fluid-filled crack, and real-time tracking a resonance frequency of the fluid-filled crack oscillations. The method further includes detecting the cessation of the fluid-filled propagation by detecting a switch in the resonance frequency evolution from decreasing to increasing. The steps of the method may be performed in real time.
