A method for operating a vehicle with compressed natural gas and/or hydrogen has a single insulated fuel tank for both fuels and a monitoring system, e.g. pressure and temperature, density etc., to determine the actual mixture in the tank. The optimum engine settings are computed by the engine management system to operate the engine at maximum efficiency over the full range of fuel ratios.
