The invention relates to a method for processing damaged labels (E'), especially RFID labels, in a label printer, and a label printer in which the labels (E, E') are disposed successively on a label support web (ET) in the direction of conveyance of the label support web (ET) that is fed to at least one first writing unit (22) under tensile stress for selectively transferring data onto the labels (E) and then to a dispensing unit (24) in which the labels (E) are individually removed from the label support web (ET) and are dispensed in one dispensing process onto an object that is to be provided with a label (E). The empty label support web (ET) is received in an empty material storage unit (32) following the dispensing process. The label support web (ET) comprising the labels (E, E') that are disposed thereupon is delivered to an examination unit (14) which is located upstream of the dispensing unit (24) in the direction of conveyance of the label support web (ET) and verifies whether the individual labels (E, E') are damaged. Dispensing of the label (E') onto an object that is to be provided with a label (E) is cancelled if a label (E') is damaged.
