CLIP APPLYING APPARATUS WITH ANGLED JAW

A clip applying apparatus (10) includes a jaw mechanism (16) having a stationary jaw (24) and a movable jaw (26). The movable jaw is supported on the distal end of a crimping member (20) which is movably supported within a body portion (14). The stationary jaw defines a longitudinal axis forming an angle of between about 15 degrees and about 75 relative to a longitudinal axis of the body portion. The stationary jaw include a clip receiving channel (28). The distal end of the stationary jaw includes a stop member (22c) which is positioned to engage the distal end of a leg (22c) of a clip to prevent the clip from being pushed from the stationary jaw. The movable jaw includes a distally located crimping surface (22a) and a head portion (26) and a head portion of the clip. The crimping surface defines an angle substantially the same as the angle of the stationary jaw.
