There are disclosed network provisioning and management tools and methods for a communications network, particularly a broadband communications network over which one or more services are provided to a user. In particular, a provisioning tool for a broadband network is disclosed which comprises means for receiving stored configuration data indicative of a network configuration and client data identifying the client to be provisioned and means for determining a sequence of actions based on the stored configuration data and client data. Provisioning and other network tools with additional or alternative advantageous features are disclosed and the provisioning tools disclosed may communicate with a variety of other tools including planning and inventory applications and agents associated with equipment, enabling provision of a variety of novel services and features dealing with a spectrum of problems arising in a communications environment, particularly a broadband environment.
