A coating system for applying fluids onto a substrate in either liquid or viscous form, has the coating head as a removable module (14) fitted to the coating assembly (12) via an adaptor plate (20). A single arm (16) on the side of the adaptor plate has a profiled bottom end to push the coating head into a mounting grip and secure the coating head without any additional fasteners and without tools. The coating head has a concave grip at one end and engaged by a convex profile end of the clamping arm. The other end of the coating head has a sloping profile to locate into a sloping recess (56) in the adaptor plate. A locating peg (84) through the coating head provides accurate alignment. The clamping arm is spring loaded and is set via an integral adjusting screw with a grip knob.
