A method of manufacturing unique identifying markers for tagging objects, each marker having a corresponding unique binary string that can be cross-referenced against a database, comprises selecting the total number of characteristics available to be imposed on the marker, wherein each characteristic corresponds to either 1 or 0 at a particular location in the binary string . The number of characteristics, from the total number available, that must be imposed on the marker is then set. All the unique binary strings that are possible within the restrictions set out in the previous steps are generated. Once the binary strings have been generated the unique identifying markers are generated by imposing each unique marker with those characteristics determined by the unique binary string sequence to which that unique marker corresponds. Further batches of unique identifying markers can be produced by repeating the method from the second step onwards but using a new value for the set number of characteristics to be imposed on the marker. |
