Clinch nut

The nut has a head (11) and a polygon outside diameter shank part (13). A front surface (8) of the shank part has a round outside diameter (punching diameter 1), working as a punching die. The nut is pressed into the sheet metal working against a stencil so that a round stencil diameter is provided. The stencil diameter is around 0.08 to 0.12 mm per mm of the plate thickness and larger than the punching diameter of the nut. An independent claim is included for a method.
