Nanostructure fabrication using microbial mandrel

The array has multiple nanostructures disposed in a predetermined pattern on a substrate, and oriented in a predetermined orientation. Each nanostructure has a polymer coating (50) covering an elongate microbe (40) fixed to the substrate at its one end. An inorganic outer layer (60) covers the coating (50). The nanostructures are characterized by interior dimensions commensurate with the dimensions of microbes. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a method for fabricating nano-scale structures (b) an integrated circuit having an array of nanostructures (c) a mandrel fixture for fabricating a nano-scale structure carried by a substrate.
