A method for producing titanium oxide particles wherein titanium tetrachlori de is oxidized at a high temperature with an oxidizing gas, characterized in th at each of a titanium tetrachloride-containing gas and an oxidizing gas is preheated to a temperature of 500~C or higher, and then fed to a reaction tu be for reacting with each other, to thereby yield titanium oxide fine particles having a BET specific surface area of 3 m2/g to 200 m2/g. The finely particulate titanium oxide is a fine powder being reduced in the amount of coagulated particles and exhibits excellent dispersibility.
