A light transmitter-receiver is connected to a drive unit for light indicators in a mailbox through a connection circuit. When the transmitter-receiver detects that mail is present in the mailbox, the drive unit activates the light indicators. The indicators emit light, and accompanied with recorded sounds or a synthesized voice message, notify the mailbox owner that mail has been delivered.
