Alkali activated fly ash based geopolymer cements and methods for their production

Alkali activated fly ash based geopolymer cements and methods for their production are disclosed, wherein the geopolymer composition comprises the oxide molar ratios of: (a) SiO2/Al2O3 = 3.0-6.5; (b) M2O/SiO2 = 0.07-0.20; (c) H2O/M2O = 8.0-19.0; (d) B2O3/H2O = 0.01-0.2; and (e) M2O/B2O3 = 0.5-6.0 wherein M is a Group I metal and may be selected from one or more of Li, Na, K, Rb and Cs. These geopolymer cements may be used in various applications such as cementing systems in construction industry, as refractory materials and for encapsulating hazardous and radioactive waste materials.
