A blood pressure monitoring instrument 26 is strapped around the wrist of the wearer, by a strap including a portion 30 that has an inner surface 36 configured in cross section to curve inwardly toward the wearer's body. The inward curvature 36 of the strap assists in holding a projecting portion of the pressure sensor 10 of the instrument firmly in place to effect a partial occlusion of the artery in the wrist and provide a constant positioning of the sensor on the wrist despite flexing movements of the wrist.
