PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a header tank for a heat exchanger capable of obtaining a heat exchanger with excellent heat exchanging performance and a heat exchanger with excellent heat exchanging performance. SOLUTION: An evaporator 1 comprises first and second header tanks 2, 3 arranged with an interval to each other, and a plurality of heat exchanging tubes 12 arranged in parallel between both the header tanks 2, 3. By partitioning the first header tank 2 by a partitioning wall 27 in the front and the back, a refrigerant inlet header part 5 and a refrigerant outlet header part 6 are provided. The first header tank 2 is formed by a first member 16 to which the heat exchanging tube 12 is connected, and a second member 17 with extruded shape brazed to the opposite part of the heat exchanging tube 12 of the first member 16. A projection 30 extending in the length direction is integrally formed at the position shifted from the centers in the front and the back on the outer surface of the second member 17, and thus the outer cross-sectional shape of the first header tank 2 is made asymmetric in the front and the back.
