PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cellulose ester film useful as a protective film for a polarizing plate of a liquid crystal display (LCD) and in particular capable of improving quality of a roll of 5,000 m or more, wherein reduction in quality of a roll, even with a length of 5,000 m or more which provides a large load, can be suppressed. SOLUTION: A cellulose ester film containing a matting agent is characterized by the formulas: 0.5≤μA≤1.5 and 1.0≤μA/μB≤1.3, whereinμA represents the dynamic friction coefficient at a point contact load A; andμB represents the dynamic friction coefficient at a surface contact (apparent area 63×63 mm<SP>2</SP>) load B. Further, the cellulose ester film has an arithmetic average roughness Ra, a ten point average roughness Rz and an average spacing between local peaks Sm of the film in the range of 9.0 nm≤Ra≤11.0 nm, 150 nm≤Rz≤250 nm and 10 nm≤Sm≤300 nm, respectively.
