PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet body transport device, accurately sorting sheet bodies at high speed while restraining a difference in degree of abrasion between transport rollers and to provide an image recording apparatus using it. SOLUTION: In response to detection of the leading edge of a cut recording paper P1 by a sensor 49a, a moving mechanism 100 sorts the paper to a first sorting position, and in response to detection of the leading edge of the cut recording paper P1 by a sensor 50a, a pair of transport rollers 113, 114 are released to return to the center position 90. Subsequently, in response to detection of the trailing end of the cut recording part P1 by a sensor 49b, the paired transport rollers 113, 114 are again put in the nipping state to receive the next cut recording paper P2. In response to detection of the leading edge of the cut recording paper P2 by the sensor 40a, the moving mechanism 100 sorts the cut recording paper P2 to a second sorting position 94 opposite to the cut recording paper P1.
