The invention relates to a device for cooling the pistons of an internal combustion engine, by means of a lubricating oil pump supplying oil to each piston, at least on the bottom face thereof, from the lubricating oil circuit, by means of a supply line comprising an outlet opening, whereby oil supply is achieved through at least one valve. According to the invention, the at least one valve is a non-return valve, which permits a supply of oil only when a defined pressure in the lubricating oil circuit is achieved, provided with a controller, which guarantees that the lubricating oil pump is controlled such as to provided a variable pressure in the lubricating oil circuit, under differing operating conditions for the internal combustion engine depending on load.
