The terrace consists of natural or preferably artificial stone slabs (1) which are interconnected by a continuous profiled strip (8) which consists of a weatherproof, sunlight-resistant and tread-resistant elastic material. The profiled strip consists entirely of the elastic material and has a continuous protrusion on both sides which engages in a groove formed in the side edges of the stone slabs. A tensioning element (6) is provided for one row of slabs and extends through at least one profiled strip. An independent claim is included for a method for the laying of a terrace in which a tensioning element is accommodated in a longitudinal bore in the profiled strip.
