Method and apparatus for controlling a reel-up, in which reel-up the paper web or the like (W) is reeled around a reel spool (5) via a reeling nip (N) to form a reel (R). The reeling nip (N) is formed by means of the loop of an endless supporting member (1) passed via two guiding rolls (2, 3) and a reel spool (5) and a reel (R) formed thereon. The web (W) reeled on the reel spool (5) and on the reel (R) formed thereon is guided in the axial direction of the reel spool (5) by turning the reel spool (5) or at least one of the guiding rolls (2, 3).
