PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably provide a satisfactorily finished photograph of a person by properly altering and setting lighting conditions of a strobe or the like, according to an illumination condition when the photograph of a person, including a portrait, is taken, thereby making it possible to carry out photographing under appropriate exposure conditions at any time. SOLUTION: A photographing system has a control means for controlling a quantity of light of an illumination means for illuminating a subject when a person is photographed. Using information about a photographing environment right before present photographing, detected by a detecting means, the control means controls the quantity of light emitted from the illuminating means, thereby making it possible to carry out photographing with an appropriate quantity of exposure.
