PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a conventional valve body cutting method for cutting a valve body of a butterfly valve connected to a fluid pipe in a fluid piping system such as a water service pipe system, to thereby efficiently and easily carry out boring work of the butterfly valve, and to improve a conventional valve replacing method. SOLUTION: According to an improved valve body cutting method, an on-off valve 5 is connected to a downstream aperture of a valve box 10 of the butterfly valve V connected to the fluid pipe, and a boring machine A is inserted into a downstream aperture of the on-off valve 5. The boring machine has a hole saw 23 having a cutting bore larger than a maximum diameter of a rotating orbit of a coupling member 13 rigidly coupling the valve body 11 of the butterfly valve V to both valve rods 12A, 12B. Then while flow of the fluid in the fluid pipe is ensured by the hole saw 23 of the boring machine A inserted into the downstream aperture of the on-off valve 5, a portion of one of both the valve rods 12A, 12B of the butterfly valve V, located radially outside the rotating orbit of the coupling member 13, is cut by the hole saw 23, and the cut portion of the valve rod is removed together with the valve body 11.
