Disclosed is a windmill (1) comprising one or several blades (3) that rotate about a vertical, central axis (4) within a main bearing (5), are disposed parallel to said vertical axis (4), are connected via horizontal supports (6), are freely rotatable in bearings (7), and can be oriented by means of a wind vane (9). The cross section of the blades (3) is provided with an aerodynamic, symmetrical profile (8) along the entire length thereof. The profile (8) of the blades (3) is longitudinally oriented in the direction of the wind (10) on the horizontal supports (6) at each point of the trajectory (13) thereof about the vertical axis (4), controlled by the wind vane (9), with the aid of a first control mechanism (11) while said blades (3) are adjusted in relation to the wind (10) on the horizontal supports (6) by means of a second control mechanism (12) such that the longitudinal axes of the profile (8) of the blade/s (3) are oriented in accordance with the angle of rotation of the horizontal support (6) to the wind vane (9) and the rotational speed of said horizontal support (6) at each point of the trajectory (13) thereof in order to generate an optimal aerodynamic force.
