The invention refers to an absorbent article (1) and a method for manufacturing the absorbent article. The article comprises a backsheet (2) covered at least partly by a topsheet (3) and delimited by a first and a second longitudinally extending side edge (4, 5) and a first and a second opposing laterally extending short edge (6, 7). The invention is characterised in that; the backsheet (2) comprises a first flap portion extending at least partly along the first side edge (4) and folded over the first side edge (4) and over parts of the topsheet (3); the backsheet (2) further comprises a second flap portion (9) extending at least partly along the second side edge (5) and folded over the second side edge (5) and over parts of the topsheet (3), wherein the first and second flap portions (8, 9) are at least partly covered with an adherent means (10).
