PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS COMPRISING OLD MAN'S BEARD (USNEA BARBATA) AND ST.JOHN'S WORT (HYPERICUM PERFORATUM) AND THEIR USE

The invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions from Usnea barbata and their use in the treatment of skin diseases. A preferred composition is the combination with an extract from Hypericum perforatum. The extracts are obtained by hypercritical high-pressure extraction with natural carbonic aci d. A preferred method of production is the common homogenization of 6 % by weig ht of an extract from Usnea barbata, containing 96 % usnic acid, and 40 % by weight of an extract from Hypericum perforatum, containing 39 % hyperforin. The pharmaceutical composition brings about an exponentiation of the anti- inflammatory and antimicrobial effects of the extracts and stabilizes the hyperforin. The combination is suitable for external and internal treatment of various skin diseases, especially various forms of dermatitis, and skin agin g, and for the treatment of skin infections with Pityrosporon yeast fungi, acne and rosacea.
