PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control system and a method for controlling the same capable of avoiding driver's misunderstanding of occurrence of engine trouble with seeing abnormal rise of a water temperature meter by preventing the water temperature meter at a driver's seat from abnormally rising during forced regeneration of DPF in an exhaust emission control system provided with a DPF device.

SOLUTION: Operation of an exhaust temperature rising means 351C is canceled if engine cooling water temperature Tw detected by a cooling water temperature detecting device 37C exceeds predetermined water temperature Tw1, Tw2 for judgment during forced regeneration control of a filter using the exhaust temperature rising means 351C.
