<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a displacement sensor designed so that real instrumentation area in an image pickup device of the displacement sensor to achieve speeding up of measuring velocity (i.e., speed of response), as well as any operation required for designation of the real instrumentation area can be simplified without causing trouble in accuracy to reduce users' burden. <P>SOLUTION: In this sensor, normal operating mode and area setting mode are optional, and in normal operating mode, normal displacement measuring process for measuring displacement of an object in measurement coverage area is performed from outputs of the image pickup device. On the other hand, the area setting mode enables the execution of both the process for computing a reference position of the substantial instrumentation area from the outputs of the image pickup device obtained by using a predefined trigger to irradiate the measurement coverage area with convergent light on condition that the object to be measured is located on the specific position of the measurement coverage area and the process for setting two or more substantial instrumentation areas from the above reference position and previously-input area threshold. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
