PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silane compound which has two or more protected functional groups introduced at the modification to express much more effects due to modification and addition, and is useful as a polymer modifier, paint additive, adhesive, silane coupling agent, surface treatment agent or the like, and to provide a method for production thereof. SOLUTION: This silane compound having two or more protected functional groups is represented by general formula (1), A-R-Si(CH<SB>3</SB>)<SB>n</SB>X<SB>3-n</SB>[wherein A is general formula (2) (R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each 1-10C univalent hydrocarbon group; and a and b are each an integer of 1 to 10) or general formula (3) (R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are the same as above); R is a 2-10C linear or branched divalent hydrocarbon group; X is halogen or a 1-10C organoxy; and n is 0, 1 or 2].
