PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bar coating method capable of preventing back round that a coating liquid spreads to a back surface of a support body and restricting coating width, and an apparatus. SOLUTION: In the bar coating method, the coating liquid extruded from a slot tip end parallel to a width direction of the support body is transferred and coated on the traveling band-like support body 16 through a coating bar. The coating liquid is a liquid comprising a solvent and a solute. A pre-coating device 70 is provided on the coating bar on an upstream side in a traveling direction of the support body. The neighborhood to an end in a width direction of the support body is coated with a liquid of the same composition as the solvent by the pre-coating device to form a dummy coating layer. Thereafter, a part other than the dummy coating layer of the support body is transfer-coated with the coating liquid through the coating bar. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
