<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately control a fixing apparatus without necessitating a complicated mechanism or control by estimating the change in stiffness of an elastic pressurizing roller and nip width by detecting the degree of aging in the fixing apparatus and by varying a control parameter of the fixing apparatus according to it. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with the fixing apparatus 8 fixing a developer image on recording material P. The number of pieces of paper which passed in the fixing apparatus 8 (or the number of rotation for a fixing film) is detected as the degree of aging in the fixing apparatus 8.
